Who is behind Gentle Pilates?

Gentle Pilates is taught by Angela, a physiotherapy-trained Pilates instructor who works one to one in Singapore and is opening a private studio in Adelaide, Australia. She studied physiotherapy in Australia and worked in hospitals and private practice before qualifying across the full Pilates repertoire on every apparatus. Angela specialises and focuses on one to one private pilates, and she takes clients from rehabilitation right through to advanced work.

FOUNDER STORY

From Physiotherapy to Pilates: How Gentle Pilates Began

Angela trained as a physiotherapist in Australia and spent years in hospitals and private practice before finding her way back to the body through Pilates.

Where it began

She loved the thinking, just not the four walls.

Physiotherapy in Australia, then years in hospitals and private practice. How bodies work always fascinated her: how an old injury spreads, how one tight hip changes the way a person walks. Spending every day in the same small physiotherapy room, repeating the same treatments, never did though.

So she went exploring beyond the rooms.

The years in between

She stepped away, and built something of her own.

A fashion label gave her what the clinic couldn't: something to create, and a reason to travel. On one of those trips she met her husband. She closed the fashion business, packed up her life in Australia and moved to Singapore.

It was a bigger change than it looked, and for a while she wasn't sure what came next.

Where it leads today

A practice in two cities, Singapore & Adelaide

Pilates gave Angela the movement she had missed, and somewhere to use the clinical reasoning she had trained for. Today she teaches one to one private pilates only, in Singapore and soon in Adelaide, taking clients from rehabilitation all the way through to advanced work.

Physiotherapists refer their own clients to her, and she has yet to refer one back out.

How she found Pilates

Pilates is what steadied her.

She took her first course in July 2023, mostly for herself, and was teaching within the month. Six months later her calendar was full, with a waitlist. Within two years she had completed every level, on every apparatus: reformer, cadillac, chair, barrel and mat.

WHY CHOOSE PRIVATE SESSIONS

A session centred around you.

In a private session, Angela gives you her full attention, tailoring the hour to your needs. Here’s what that means for you.

The hour is yours

She works with how your body feels that day, not a plan written last week. If something aches this morning, the session changes.

Nobody is watching

No front row, no keeping up, no feeling a step behind. For many clients it's the first time exercise hasn't felt like a test.

From your first session to advanced work

Many treatments end once the pain does. Here, that's often where the best work begins, and most clients stay with her from rehabilitation through to advanced.

FAQs

The questions people ask about Angela.

Ready for a body you can stop worrying about?

Standing up from your desk without that first stiff moment. Picking up your child without bracing for it. Noticing a muscle you did not know had switched off. Most people spot the change in small, ordinary moments long before they would call themselves strong.
